I know I know I
I can’t feel
I know I know I want to
I know I know I
I can’t deal
I know I know I used to
I know I know why
nothing’s real
I know it used to...be you
I know I know why
I know nothing
I just want to
Just let me play, play, yeah
Just let me play, yeah
I wanna wanna play you
I wanna wanna play you
I wanna wanna play with you, yeah
But when I hold you
I don’t wanna feel so helpless
When I’m near you
I don’t wanna feel alone
When I touch you
I don’t wann feel so empty
When I say, “I love you,”
I don’t wanna say it alone, no,
I don’t wanna say it alone, no I
No I don’t wanna say it alone...

Song Notes: This is a light take on the heavy subject of unrequited love and rejection. The upbeat mood of the song speaks to the happy lies we tell ourselves to make us feel better. There's more happening in the music than the lyrics express.
Jazz guitar (McBoy) and clarinet (Bill Barner) provide a special playfulness to the first part of the piece. McBoy's rock guiter solo and Bill's saxes in the second half help provide punch. Thanks, guys.
A solo piano version of this tune also appears on my 2006 release, 13 Masks. It goes by a longer title, Let Me Play With Those Horns, Amalthea, track 11, and tells a different story.
