Surely it is important that the moral truths which make freedom possible should be passed on to each new generation. Every generation needs to know that freedom consists not in doing what we like, but in having the right to do what we ought.

The only difference between a rut and a grave is the depth.

Cowboy Sayings:

Never ask a man the size of his spread.

If you find yourself in a hole, the first thing to do is stop digging.

If you get to thinking you're a person of some influence, try ordering someone else's dog around.

A man with an edgy smile is like a dog with a wagging tail: he's not happy, he's nervous.

Good judgement comes from experience, and a lot of that comes from bad judgement.

Remain independent of any source of income that will deprive you of your personal liberties.

Trust everybody in the game, but always cut the cards.

You can just about always stand more than you think you can.

Always try to be a bit nicer than is called for, but don't take too much guff.

One friend, one person who is truly understanding, who takes the trouble to listen to us as we consider our problem, can change our whole outlook on the world.
- Dr. Elton Mayo

The one who lies to himself and believes his own lies comes to a point where he can distinguish no truth either within himself or around him, and thus enters into a state of disrespect towards himself and others. Respecting no one, he loves no one, and to amuse and divert himself in the absence of love, he gives himself up to his passions and his vulgar delights and becomes a complete animal in his vices, and all of it from lying to other people and himself.
-From Dostoyevsky´s ´´The Brothers Karamazov´´

We convince ourselves that life will be better when…

The truth is, there's no better time than right now.

Your life will always be filled with challenges. It's best to admit this to yourself and decide to be happy anyway.

"For a long time it had seemed to me that life was about to begin, real life. But there was always some obstacle in the way, something to be gotten to first, some unfinished business, time still to be served, a debt to be paid. Then life could begin. At last it dawned on me that these obstacles were my life." -Alfred D. Souza

Stop waiting until you finish school, until you go back to school, until you lose ten pounds, until you gain ten pounds, until you have kids, until your kids leave the house, until you start work, until you retire, until you get married, until you get divorced, until your car or home is paid off, until spring, until the 1st or 15th, until your song comes on, until you've had a drink, until you've sobered up, until you die…to decide that there is no better time than right now to be happy.

When we walk to the edge of all the light that we know and look out into the darkness of the unknown, we must believe that one of two things will happen: there will be something solid for us to stand on -or- God will teach us to fly. -anonymous

We have forgotten the gracious hand which has preserved us in peace and multiplied and enriched and strengthened us, and have vainly imagined in the deceitfulness of our hearts that all these blessings were produced by some superior wisdom and virtue of our own. Intoxicated with unbroken success, we have become too self sufficient to feel the necessity of redeeming and preserving Grace, too proud to pray to the God that made us.
-Abraham Lincoln
Chris Mueller
If we don't experience life as all the ultimate possibilities it really is, if we categorize it, catalogue it and stuff it into compartments labeled sacred and profane, we gradually succumb to acedia, a deathlike state which poses as existence. Acedia is the goddess of depression, sadness, and false angels of hope, like Prozac. Acedia is also the goddess of inertia, the death knell for humanity. She sees to it that even as we try to awaken, we remain mind-numbingly asleep to the beauty and purpose of life. She dulls our senses so we live safe and separate from nature, in dwellings which off-gas and poison us, surrounded by toxic lawns and asphalt. She and her consort, Lord GNP, whisper to us that trees are mere commodities, resources for economic growth, fodder for "necessities" like Pampers and McDonalds. And under their spell we pave paradise, put up parking lots, cut our own lifelines, and call it progress.
